Frequently asked questions
What people usually ask before the first class.
- 01What is the difference between Bachata and Salsa?
- Bachata has a slower four-count rhythm with hip movement and a focus on partner connection. Salsa is faster, improvised and has more individual footwork. Both are Afro-Latin dances widely danced in Portugal.
- 02What is Salsa on1 vs on2?
- On1 (Los Angeles style) breaks on the first beat — the most taught in Portugal. On2 (New York style) breaks on the second beat and has a more musical quality, preferred in more advanced settings.
- 03Do I need a partner for Salsa classes?
- No. Classes are individual or in a small group — you work on the basic step, turns and shines without a fixed partner.
- 04Which is easier to learn, Bachata or Salsa?
- For many beginners Bachata feels easier at first thanks to the slower rhythm. Salsa asks for a little more coordination, but is just as approachable with regular practice.
